More

I’m suffering from an eye infection this week, which has limited my mobility to a degree that I don’t like very much.

It seems every year I get an eye infection. I attribute this to the fact that I’m always rubbing my eyes because of my severe allergies as well as spending too long in smoky, drug-fueled clubs. Either way it’s a major pain because it hurts and is sensitive to light. But it seems to be getting better now, finally, so I give thanks for that.

I’ve been interviewing for new jobs, one with a major search-engine company here in the Bay area. They’ve got a strange interview process which involved me writing reasons why it was OK to advertise pornography on a search engine but not tobacco products. Go figure.

My Sister

This is my sister last Saturday night in New York. She’s wearing a vintage Halston, circa 1978 and she looks FABULOUS.

Poor Kate

I don’t have a problem with Kate Moss snorting blow, as anyone who reads this blog knows I myself enjoy a little Peruvian Marching Powder from time-to-time.

No, I have a problem with Kate Moss suing the Daily Mirror last year when they alleged she’d passed out from snorting too much coke, and winning. She sued knowing they were telling the truth and the end result of that is the tabloid hired someone to trail her 24/7 and inevitably, they caught her railing lines.

Kate’s wisest move would have been to first not anger the press in the first place. A wounded animal is much, MUCH more likely to strike out in search of blood. Ignoring the hypocricy of the fashion houses that are cancelling her modeling contracts left and right (I mean, who doesn’t snort coke in the fashion world?) Kate really brought this all on herself.

The Witchhunt Begins…

We were wrong, we do actually hate you

There are dark rumblings coming from the Vatican that all gay seminarians, priests, Brothers and laypeople, not just those who are non-celibate, will be targeted for removal from the Church in the coming years. This changes thousands of years of church practice, which is to “love the sinner but hate the sin.” Now there will no longer be any distinction between sin and sinner, the church is going to hate both equally, which seems to me to be in direct contradiction to the teachings of Jesus. But then again, when has the Catholic church ever made the distinction between Jesus’s teachings and it’s own actions?

I think back to when I was Catholic and attended a Catholic undergraduate college. One of the most electrifying and motivational professors we had was Brother Andre’ Leveque, a Christian Brother from Louisiana who taught the classics. He admitted he was gay but also practiced celibacy and so remained within the grace of the church. He was an amazing professor with a real love for ancient Greek and Roman history, and more importantly he made us love that history as well. If the current Pope and church hierarchy have their way people like Brother Andre will be kicked out of the priesthood and expelled from the universities and colleges in which they currently teach. They don’t have to be accused of sexual misconduct, they just have to be gay.

The whole thought of this new inquisition is frightening and disgusting. How is the church going to find out if priests have gay thoughts? Torture, coercion or some combination of both? And is this punishment for “gay thoughts” going to extend to parishoners as well? Will we have one parishoner telling on another parishoner to have him excommunicated for gay thoughts? “Pssssst, Father Genantola, I know James Bluthe has a subscription to a ‘gay’ magazine!”

If this comes about, and it looks more and more like it will, I wonder how organizations like Dignity will continue to exist amongst the persecution that will follow. How will a gay Catholic be able to love a church that now not only hates their sin but hates them as well?

Beautiful People

I had such a fantastic time in New York. Saturday night was one of the best I have ever had in my entire life.

Friday my sister and I went to dinner in the Village and then hit the bar at Soho House for a drink before heading to bed. We knew we were going to have a long day and night the next day and wanted to get some sleep.

Saturday day we went shopping, ate food, got cupcakes at Magnolia bakery and then shopped some more. My sister then went to get a tan sprayed on and I tried to take a nap before the hair and makeup people showed up to fix her up.

We had dinner Saturday night at Nobu and then went to a party a friend of mine was having in Brooklyn. We then went to Cain and were escorted in by the manager straight back to the VIP section where we sat next to Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. My sister, looking quite fabulous herself in a vintage Halston gown (I’ll post a picture tomorrow) commented “Are there any ugly people in this club? Everyone here is beautiful!” I told her that since you can’t get into Cain unless you’re “someone” or with “someone” or are very beautiful it would figure that everyone there is attractive.

I also saw Fabian Basebe outside standing by Marquee looking slightly dejected. Note to Fabian - That “wife” of yours isn’t fooling anyone, everyone in New York knows you’re gay. Also, some people I know told me Fabian is no longer allowed at Soho House because his obnoxious attitude and terrible behavior towards the staff have become intolerable. So now poor Fabian is banned from two of the most popular places in both the Hamptons and Manhattan - Star Room and Soho House.

After Cain we went to Cielo where we got another VIP table with a bottle of champagne, and this time it was gratis. The manager at Cielo is hot, hot, HOT but sadly he’s also straight. I love that club, it’s got excellent music and a very different vibe from Cain, where everyone feels like they’re so “fabulous”, which I guess they are, but at Cielo you can tell people are there to dance because the music, lights and people all kick ass.

Sunday we woke up at 1:30, had brunch on the rooftop pool at Soho house and then headed back to JFK. This weekend is one I will never forget and am so happy I had a chance to experience with my sister.

HACKED!!!

You may notice the last post is from more than one month ago. That’s because someone hacked into my blog last night.

I was alerted by my fearless blog master, Ismail Somah, who quickly and effeciently remedied the situation and got the blog up and running again. The previous month’s posts are gone though, never to return. But now I have a stronger, more hack-proof blog than before.

I’m off to New York tomorrow for the weekend. Please cross your fingers for me that Hurricane Ophelia doesn’t decide to speed up and aim for New York. I want to have a nice weekend, not one where I’m huddling in my hotel braving 75 MPH winds.
