One of the funnest things about being married to a doctor is receiving the Action Report from the California Medical Board in the mail. This publication, available to anyone over the web and sent out 3x a year to members of the California Medical Board, lists administrative actions taken against any physician holding a California Medical License.
While 99% of physicians are great people and excellent doctors there are always a few bad apples in the bunch. You wouldn’t believe what some have been up to. Here’s a sample:
Shawn Kent Hassler, MD - 5 YRS. PROBATION W/TERMS & CONDITIONS & 30 DAYS SUSPENSION BROKEN INTOTWO 15 DAY PERIODS. 1ST PERIOD SERVED 09/28/05-10/12/05. 2ND PERIODSHALL BEGIN ON 01/18/06 THROUGH 02/01/06. 1ST YR. OF PROBATION HE SHALL HAVE A 3RD PARTY CHAPERONE WHILE TREATING MALE PATIENTS. This physician obviously has an issue with sexual misconduct and male patients, because he’s required to have a chaperone when treating them. Charming. He also seems to have a problem prescribing controlled substances, including marijuana.

There is so much on this site. Physicians who “have a condition affecting their ability to practice medicine,” which in laymen’s terms means they have a drug or alcohol problem. Physicans found guilty of sexual and physical misconduct, negligence, failing to maintain records, Medicare fraud, wire fraud, dishonest and corrupt conduct, sexual relationships with patients, lewd acts upon children, verbally abusive behavior etc…
Do you know what your physican has been up to? If they have a California medical license you can check them out here.
