“One of the US’s Premier Zionists”

Scanning through the referers to my site I came across this repulsive hate-blog. I’m familiar with this goon’s works because he posted one his emetogenic cartoons on Daily Kos and I (and many others) started a campaign to get him banned from the site.

Well I’m being paid back for my troubles by him naming me one of America’s “Premier Zionists.” All I have to say is - Thanks for the publicity!

What a douchebag. When are he and his evil little minions going to realize that being called a Zionist is not an insult.

Lucky Bitches

Today our discussion of Customary International Law, Persistent Objectors, Subsequent Objectors and New States was interrupted by a fire alarm. We all had to leave the classroom and stand out in the cold while Alameda County and Berkeley Police vehicles circled the building. Turns out someone pulled a fire alarm but that delay meant that the group of students who would be subject to the professors whithering criticism by being called on today got out of it.

That makes me mad. A lot of things make me mad recently. This cold-ass weather makes me mad - 55 degrees at the end of May? Our geriatric cat makes me mad too. I’ve had to haul his old ass down to the vet twice since I’ve been home and today his dental care cost us $645. For a CAT! And he has elevated liver enzymes, weird thyroid issues and the PH of his urine is way off. All of this means he’s going to be going back to the vet later this week and I have to give him a bunch of medicines. And he’s not even my damned cat, he’s my boyfriend’s inbred Kentucky Appalachian cat!!!

opinio juris sive necessitatis

opinio juris sive necessitatis - this was a focus of discussion today in my law class. We spent a lot of time on the differences between opinio juris and state practice.

My professor uses the Socratic method, breaks the class up and then assigns each class section a day on which they will be called upon to answer questions. Today was mine and (thank God) I had a good understanding of the issue - which was the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and whether this was legal under The Treaty of Guarantee between Cyprus, Turkey, Greece and the United Kingdom, and then including discussion of Article 31 and 32 of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties.

I won’t bore you with the details but I think I did alright, I was certainly better-prepared than my Greek counterpart who blubbered and blabbed his way through until the professor asked someone from the class to come and rescue his ass. Guess he won’t let that happen again.

Boalt Hall - First Day

I’m taking an International Law class at UC Berkeley School of Law this summer and today was my first day.

Walking into the building I was greeted by the site of a recalcitrant student screaming and throwing herself on the lawn while wailing “I don’t want to be here.” Seriously. Gives one second thoughts about attending law school at Berkeley.

Other than that the class was satisfactory for the first day. A lot of discussion of Grotian principles - which I’m familiar with, as well as motivation for states to follow the principles of international law.

Update

Heard back from final professor: A-. One A and 2 A- or in other words “Straight A’s”

Tick-Tock

I still don’t have official grades from 2 out of 3 classes. I did get an e-mail from one professor telling me I got an A-, so that means I now have an A and an A- and am awaiting word on the final class.

It is outrageous that professors take so long to turn in grades. I’ve never experienced this at any other university or college I’ve attended.

Still, I’m pleased that I’ve at least heard from 2 out of 3 but a bit disappointed that I got an A- instead of a straight A. I even did a bit of grade-grubbing and wrote the professor an e-mail saying I was disappointed with an A- and felt I deserved an A. She wrote back and said an A- is still excellent and she rarely gives As to begin with.

NYU doesn’t give A+ so an A is 4.0 and an A- is 3.75. Top-tier law schools typically require 3.75 or above plus excellent LSATs. And now I am officially becoming one of the people I hate who babble endlessly about graduate and law schools and quote their GPA and GRE or LSAT scores like they’re winning football game scores. Yuck.

The Loser Convention

Longing for a chance to hang around with mouth-foaming self-identified “progressives” and the assorted nasties who love them? Well does Supervisor Chris “Asswipe” Daly have something for you.

Please come to San Francisco’s 1st “Progressive” convention down in the glamorous Tenderloin on June 2nd. You can hang out with Chris Daly, Ross Mirkarimi and the other flotsam-’n-jetsam that comprise our fair city’s insane far-left. Listen to their plans for San Francisco which will inevitably consist of:

  1. Higher taxes on property owners
  2. Screeds against the evils of owning property
  3. Higher taxes on businesses
  4. Screeds against evil business owners
  5. Screeds against that always-present boogyman of the left: “Downtown Interests!!!

Sounds like a really fun party but count me out. Although I have to admit the idea of Chris Daly running for mayor is particularly exciting to a Newsom supporter like myself. Daly will lose and lose big and hopefully that loss will deal a body blow to the Greenie Left in this city that will take them years to recover from.

Update

My apartment is all packed-up and soon I’ll be back. My subletter is moving in tomorrow morning, I know he’ll take care of the place well in my absence.

I found out from my African Studies professor that I got an A on the research paper. I still don’t have final grades but at least I know I did well on my brilliantly-written and researched final paper.

Annoying Profs

How fucking annoying is it when professors take weeks after finals to turn in grades? Last semester I had a professor take more than one month after the last day of class to turn in her grades and then she claimed she had sent them to the registrar but they had been “misplaced” along the way. Yeah right.

So far I have one grade - an A - and am waiting for two more. I know I got an A in one class but the other one is the one I’m unsure of. Midterm I had a B+ but I’ve turned in a brilliant research paper since then and taken a final so we’ll have to see. A B+ would be sad because it would keep me from getting a 4.0 this semester, which I need if I’m going to fulfill my destiny and be admitted to a top-tier law school.

Pain

I’ve hurt my heel again in the exact same spot I injured it while in Thailand over Winter Break. I’m gimping around and can barely leave my apartment because I’m in so much pain.

This sucks, I must be getting old.
